Prince William celebrates Aston Villa’s Europa League victory
Prince William was spotted at Aston Villa’s UEFA Europa League win in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 20, 2026, after the English club secured one of its biggest victories in decades. The Prince of Wales attended the match in person and celebrated with fans as players achieved glory on the soccer field. During the post-match celebrations, the father of three recorded videos on his phone while watching the team enjoy the moment. However, a short clip shared online showed the royal briefly interrupted by an incoming phone call. Instead of taking the call, he quickly pressed decline and continued filming the celebration from the stands.

The Prince of Wales shares a public message after the match
Although Prince William did not share the video he recorded on social media, he later posted a message online congratulating Aston Villa for the historic achievement. He congratulated the players, coaching staff, and everyone connected to the club while noting that it had been 44 years since Aston Villa last won a major European trophy. The Prince of Wales also gave special recognition to midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who is currently injured and expected to miss the remainder of the season. The Prince said Kamara still played an important role in helping the team build toward success before his absence due to an injury.

Prince William’s love for Aston Villa is everlasting
Prince William has supported Aston Villa for many years and has openly discussed why he became a fan of the club. In a decade-old interview with the BBC, he explained that he wanted to support a team that could provide more emotional moments rather than choosing one of England’s most popular clubs.
“A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams; I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments,” he said in 2015.
Meanwhile, his oldest son, Prince George, has also attended matches with him seems to have the same fan love for Aston Villa. However, Prince William recently revealed that Princess Charlotte supports Chelsea instead and that she is a Taylor Swift fan at a live appearance on the radio show Heart Breakfast on May 22, 2026.
