During a recent visit to Guy’s Cancer Centre, King Charles III opens up about an unusual side effect of his cancer treatment, empathizing with one of the patients he interacted with.

On May 11th, the British monarch, who is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, celebrated the 300 years of Guy’s Hospital with a visit where he met many patients, including Raymond Burgess, who was undergoing chemotherapy.

Amid their conversation, the patient confessed that the treatment usually left him with a bad taste in his mouth, and King Charles III instantly related by saying, “It’s an awful sort of metallic taste,” and added, “It doesn’t exactly help with eating.”

The head of state was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and has continued to receive treatment into this year. However, according to a message in December, there has been a positive development in his health journey, reducing his 2026 treatments.
