King Charles III’s rising monarchy has seen the effects of major transition across its organization. Now, the Royal Household, as his longtime principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, plans to step down in 2027 after nearly 20 years of service, serving both King Charles III and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Buckingham Palace has already begun to search for Alderton’s successor, marking a significant moment for the King’s monarchy. Alderton has played a pivotal role as Charles’ principal private secretary since 2025, guiding the monarchy through defining events, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 and the planning of the King’s 2023 coronation.
Anderson described serving King Charles III and Queen Camilla Parker as “the greatest imaginable honor,” adding that he hopes to continue supporting the royal couple after his retirement; on the other hand, Buckingham Palace has also praised the former private secretary
“We are deeply grateful to Clive for his tireless support and wise counsel over the years and for the enduring loyalty that will ensure a smooth transition to his successor.”
