BLACKPINK’s Lisa received a warm welcome from fans at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 12, 2026. She attended the premiere of her solo documentary Always Lalisa, which follows a year in her life as she develops her solo career and explores opportunities outside the group. Speaking after the premiere, Lisa said she initially thought one year would be enough time to discover what she wanted to pursue next.

“I just tried to find new things; like what can I do more than this?” she told Reuters in an interview after the Friday, September 11 premiere.
Directed by Sue Kim, Always Lalisa shows the period between 2024 and 2025, covering major moments including solo moments for the artist. These include Lisa’s debut solo album Alter Ego, her acting debut in HBO’s The White Lotus, and her preparations for performing independently at Coachella 2025. The film also looks at the challenges that came with leaving the carefully manufactured image and the control over her during her time as a KPop star.
Kim, who previously worked as an executive producer on Apple TV+’s K-Pop Idols, said the project provided unusual access to Lisa’s life beyond her public persona.
“This is an incredible opportunity to get to know someone who we’re only ever given a very specific image of because of the music system that she comes from. We get to have this unprecedented access, proximity and exposure to her … It’s not the world of K-pop,” Kim revealed.
Despite her strong focus on solo work, Lisa has continued promoting with BLACKPINK. The quartet released their mini-album DEADLINE in February, 2026, marking the group’s first release in over three years. Meanwhile, Always Lalisa will open in cinemas on October 12, a month after its festival debut.
