Earlier this week, Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) representatives admitted that they have been spying on Prince Harry for over 16 years. On top of that, it was also revealed that the royal family has also leaked information about him to try to ruin his reputation.
A few months ago, Harry filed a lawsuit against the publishing group for violating his privacy after they hacked his phone to obtain information about his private life. In a surprising turn of events, Andrew Green, representing MGN in court, confirmed several of the Prince’s accusations.
The publishing group “unreservedly apologizes and accepts that [Harry] is entitled to appropriate compensation” for spying on him for many years. According to the report, the company obtained information about the Duke of Sussex from 1995 to 2011. However, they also confessed that a lot of the information that they got came from different royal circles and even the royal family.
“Many came from information disclosed by or on behalf of royal households or members of the Royal Family”.
In addition, MGN also hired a private investigator to follow Harry and get intel about his personal life. Despite this, Green claimed that 28 of the 31 articles that Harry presented as evidence in court contain information that was obtained legally. Still, no further details were given about the remaining 3 articles.
The final verdict is still a few months away but people hope that the judge will rule in favor of Harry as it would set a good precedent for similar cases in the future, making people’s privacy a priority.
