Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 26, marking the start of the Sussex family’s planned return to Britain. According to PEOPLE and the BBC, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled privately from California to Birmingham with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The 4-member family is officially coming back one week after their plans to relocate were first reported. However, details about their new private home and the school the children will attend in September have not been disclosed to the public.
In addition, this return does not represent a return to royal duties for Prince Harry and Meghan. The pair stepped down as working members of the royal family in 2020 and later moved to California to live a more private life with their children. However, King Charles was reportedly informed about their plans on August 16, 2026, and is said to welcome the chance to spend more private time with his son and grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Harry and Meghan are also expected to keep their homes in Montecito, California, and Portugal while making Britain a home again.

Harry’s return could allow him to spend more time supporting U.K. charities such as WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, as well as the Invictus community ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Meghan will continue working on her lifestyle company, As Ever, and other projects, including a return to acting in a Guy Ritchie-directed drama for Netflix. Prince Harry has also spoken publicly about wanting to repair his family relationships, although his relationship with Prince William remains estranged: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he shared with the BBC in 2025.
