Prince Harry surprises basketball fans in Texas

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Saturday, June 13, catching the attention of basketball fans at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The Duke of Sussex was seen arriving at the arena wearing a polo shirt and a baseball cap as he prepared to watch the matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks.

The Duke continues supporting wounded service members

The Duke of Sussex was joined by JP Lane, a U.S. Army veteran who has competed in the Purple Heart Warrior Games and is expected to participate in the Invictus Games in the United Kingdom next year. Lane has long shared a connection with Prince Harry through their work supporting injured veterans. In addition, the Duke has previously credited the veteran with inspiring the creation of the Invictus Games, which were launched in 2014 to support wounded, injured, and sick service personnel from around the world.

According to PEOPLE, the father of two was already in San Antonio to attend the Warrior Games, which are taking place from June 13 through June 20, 2026. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver reportedly invited the Prince to attend the championship game.

Harry balances public appearances and his own commitments

Prince Harry’s appearance at the NBA Finals happened on the same day the royal family gathered in London for Trooping the Colour, which marks King Charles’ annual birthday parade. However, Harry, who relocated to California with Meghan Markle in 2020, was not expected to attend the celebration.  Prince Harry last attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony in 2022 during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The estranged royal did not join the carriage procession or appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the rest of the royal family. Instead, he and Meghan watched the parade from the Major General’s Office, which highlighted the distance between the Sussexes and the British monarchy.
