RM describes BTS as a family after 15 years together
The BTS leader, RM, recently opened up about leading the group in an interview on Apple Music 1’s The Zane Lowe Show, which was posted on Friday, March 20, 2026. The conversation came the same day BTS released ARIRANG, their first full album as a group in approximately 6 years since Be. While discussing his role in the group, RM said that being part of BTS feels like being part of a family. He shared that all seven members have been together for around 15 years, creating deep trust and a natural bond between them.
“We’ve been together for half of our lives. Like 15 years. That’s a long time,” RM said. “That’s like a family.”
RM admits leadership still feels difficult
Even with that support, RM revealed that leadership is something he is still learning. He explained that the members often take care of each other during difficult moments and share the weight of their emotions as a team. Despite the support, the rapper also said he puts too much pressure on himself. Despite this, he said he is just trying to go with the flow as one of the seven group members.
“I’m just one of the team. I’m just one of the seven. Sometimes you’ve got to just let it go, just go with the flow, just be part of the team. So I’m still figuring out what is a good leader.”

RM also entered the new BTS era with a physical setback. On Friday, March 20, 2026, BigHit announced that he had suffered an ankle injury shortly before BTS’s comeback concert in Seoul on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Despite the injury, RM still got up on stage with the rest of the members, but his movements were limited. The leader sat down on a stool and was not fully immersed in the ensemble, although the camera and his bandmates included him in the performances.
