BLACKPINK’s Rosé literally stole the spotlight with her words at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 7th. The K-pop star scooped up the Song of the Year award for “APT,” her viral collaboration with Bruno Mars. This win made Rosé the first  K-pop act ever to win the category. When she stepped up to accept the award from Paris Hilton, her speech turned into one of the night’s most memorable moments.

Reading her note, Rosé sweetly thanked Bruno for believing in her and reflected on her personal journey. She expressed her fear of failing her 16-year-old self, the girl who once felt like an outsider but dreamed of making music. But now? Everything’s a full circle moment, with that little girl feeling proud because Rosé not only achieved her dreams, but also set a record in the process. And to top things off, Rosé quoted her therapist. “As my therapist tells me to do every day, I’d like to thank myself for not giving up even in the toughest of times.”

Finally, the “Gone” singer gave props to her team, her label, and her BLACKPINK sisters, Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo. But in a sentimental move, she said the last thank-you to herself, feeling happy because her younger version is totally proud of her after seeing the way she’s achieved her goals. With a viral hit, a successful album, a massive tour with the BLACKPINK squad, and a record-breaking award achievement, Rosé is building her legendary status as an icon.
