During a recent interview, Shakira reveals her children helped her overcome her breakup with Gerard Piqué, finding love and strength in motherhood.

After becoming this week’s PEOPLE cover story, the Colombian star gave an interview to the magazine where she reflected about the separation process from the father of her sons Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, back in 2022.

“When your world collapses, you have to get up and pay the bills and still prepare breakfast and take your kids to school. Life needs to go on.”

Shakira revealed that having this responsibility with her kids helped her to get up after her divorce from Gerard Piqué, as she said, “Motherhood makes you strong.” She continued explaining how her children changed her life and kept teaching her new things:

“The moment I became a mother, I saw life through a different perspective, and my kids are not only the best thing that happened to me, but I’ve learned so much from them every day.”

Even while talking about love and relationships, she is still putting her kids first, claiming that “I’m just thinking of raising my kids. I don’t see that for now,” and that romance can come “maybe when they’re older.”
