KPop Demon Hunters premiered on June 20, 2025, on Netflix, and it has become a worldwide sensation since then. It’s currently the platform’s most-watched movie ever, and its soundtrack was just as massive, with the lead single “Golden” topping the charts across different regions.
The creators of ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ have dismissed the idea of making a live-action adaptation:
“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.” pic.twitter.com/Godro4aFro

The success of the movie came with questions about sequels and possible live-action versions. However, creator Maggie Kang told the BBC she never wants a live-action remake because the humor, action, and supernatural energy aren’t meant for that format. Co-creator Chris Appelhans agreed, explaining that animation lets Rumi pull off outrageous moments like singing a high note and kicking through the air seconds later.
“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So, totally it wouldn’t work for me,” Maggie said.
Despite the creators’ reluctance to a live-action version, Maggie Kang has been open about wanting to expand the KPop Demon Hunters universe, particularly the stories of the film’s co-protagonists, Mira and Zoey, after focusing on Rumi in the first film. And while there’s still no clear information about any sequels in this world of demons and K-pop stars, one thing’s for certain: KPop Demon Hunters is staying animated!
