'Perfect Crown' lead actors respond to the historical distortion controversy

A few hours ago, IU and Byeon Woo-seok updated their social networks and issued apology letters addressing the ‘Perfect Crown‘ controversy for historical distortion.

On May 18th, hours after the release of the final episode of the popular series, both stars share personal statements expressing their disappointment for their mistake to accurately reflect details of their history and culture.

In her message, IU confesses to feeling responsible and ashamed for not noticing these mistakes in a project that was made to capture and share their “unique history and the traditional beauty of Korea.”

“I deeply regret and apologize without any excuses for acting without giving deeper thought to the various historical inaccuracies in the drama that you pointed out.”

She concluded by thanking those fans who watched the series until the end and those who offered their feedback. “I will always remember the valuable criticisms and opinions you sent, and I will strive to be an IU who approaches future projects with a more cautious and thorough attitude. Once again, I apologize.”

For his part, Byeon Woo-seok shared a handwritten letter expressing his concern about causing discomfort and apologized for his lack of consideration in the historical context of the series and assures that viewers’ comments lead him into a deep introspection.

“During the filming and acting process, I lacked sufficient consideration regarding the historical context and meaning embedded in the work and how it might be received by the viewers.

Through the comments from viewers, I have engaged in self-reflection and introspection. I have once again deeply realized that as an actor, I need to approach not only my acting but also the message and context of the work with greater responsibility and thought.”
