Britney Spears pleaded guilty on Monday, May 11, 2026, to a reduced charge connected to a drink driving case in Southern California. The “Womanizer” hitmaker did not appear in person at Ventura County Superior Court, but her attorney, Michael A. Goldstein, represented her during the hearing. Her absence in court was allowed due to the case involving a misdemeanor charge.

Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson sentenced Britney Spears to 12 months of probation and one day in jail. She was also ordered to pay mandatory fines, complete a three-month state-approved DUI education program, attend weekly therapy sessions, and meet with a psychiatrist twice a month. The “Toxic” singer pleaded guilty to a reduced reckless driving offense known in California as a “wet reckless.” Meanwhile, her lawyer said the plea allowed her to move forward and noted that authorities recognized the steps she has taken to improve her situation.

“I don’t think anybody’s happy about pleading guilty to anything, but under the circumstances, to get this behind her, I think everybody is pleased with the result. We appreciate the district attorney recognising the positive steps that Britney is taking to help herself,” the lawyer said.

The case began on March 4, 2026, when California Highway Patrol officers stopped the princess of pop for alleged erratic driving. The authorities said they noticed signs of impairment and arrested her after field sobriety tests. She was booked early on March 5, 2026, and later released. Prosecutors said she had been driving under the combined influence of alcohol and at least one drug. Britney Spears recently completed a substance abuse treatment program and returned home, according to her lawyer.
