It was a wild weekend at the box office, as How to Train Your Dragon flew into theaters and snatched the crown right out of Lilo and Stitch’s fuzzy little hands. With a dragon-sized debut and strong competition from Materialists, the weekend of June 13 to 15 proved that live-action films are taking the crown.

#5. Ballerina – $9.4M

The action-packed John Wick spin-off is still kicking, pulling in $9.4 million this weekend. With a total now sitting at $41.8 million, it’s holding its ground.

#4. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – $10.3M

Tom Cruise’s latest impossible mission brought in another $10.3 million, pushing the total to $166.3 million. Even with newer releases in the spotlight, the franchise’s fanbase continues to show up.

#3. Materialists – $12M (Debut)

The glam rom-com thriller Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, made waves with a $12 million debut. It’s now A24’s third-biggest opening ever.

#2. Lilo and Stitch – $15.5M

The live-action Lilo & Stitch is still going strong with another $15.5 million, pushing its total to $366.3 million. The love for Stitch is real, but the dragon was just too strong this week.

#1. How to Train Your Dragon – $83.7M (Debut)

The highly anticipated live-action remake soared with a massive $83.7 million domestic debut and nearly $200 million globally. A huge win for Universal, proving this beloved franchise has fans enchanted with the live-action.
