Choi Beomgyu initially declined to join TXT and explains why

<p>On an episode of JTBC’s “Bistro Shigor,” Beomgyu made his first solo variety show appearance as the show’s first “part-time”.</p>

<p>During a lunch break, Cha In Pyo asked Beomgyu how old he was when he started in the industry, to which Beomgyu replied, “<em>I was almost 17 when I became a trainee.</em>” Jo Se Ho asked Changmin about his own trainee days, and the TVXQ member replied, “<em>I started when I was 16 years old. I also didn’t train for long. I trained for almost a year</em>”.</p>

<p>Beomgyu then asked Changmin, “<em>Did they put you in the debut lineup right away?</em>” Changmin confirmed, “<em>Quite a bit, yes</em>” and Beomgyu shared, “<em>Me too</em>,” prompting Changmin to high five him.</p>

<p>However, Beomgyu revealed, “<em>When I made the first debut lineup, I said I wouldn’t</em>.” When asked why, he explained, “<em>I wasn’t originally planning to become an idol. I originally played guitar, so I was determined to eventually become a member of a band no matter what</em>.”</p>

<p>He continued, “<em>Because I was presented with the opportunity [to become a trainee], I thought, ‘Since things turned out like this, I should work hard,’ but all of a sudden they told me I would be in the debut lineup</em>.” Fortunately, Beomgyu changed his mind and finally debuted as a member of TXT in 2019.</p>
