Pop diva and actress Selena Gomez recently sat down with Vogue Mexico and Latin America to have an honest chat and take some dazzling snaps along the way. During the interview, the “Same Old Love” hitmaker spilled the tea on her relationship must-haves, all after the confirmation (and controversy) of his new boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco.
The interview, which has been translated from Spanish to English, has the artist opening up about her ideals in a relationship. She said that everything has to be about a “special connection,” a connection that promotes self-respect and empathizes with the other’s feelings. This is what she said about that type of ideal relationship:
“It’s very hard to find someone who can listen to you and care about you, but I know when it happens it will be great and you will want it to be healthy.”
But, in case you need some context: in the previous weeks, Selena Gomez herself revealed she had been dating Benny Blanco for the past six months in secret. After unveiling her current relationship, the actress started posting a series of Instagram stories kissing and cuddling with Benny. But plot twist! The reveal came with huge controversy and a major Instagram rant, in which the “Single Soon” singer argued with her fans and followers.
It all went down after Selenators (that’s the name Selena Gomez fans wear proudly) called out Benny Blanco and reminded Selena that he had talked badly about her in the past and had even made disgusting jokes about poop. The worst thing? He messed with other people’s religions on his Twitter account (formerly known as Twitter).
Selena quickly defended her boyfriend, calling him “my absolute everything in my heart,” and affirming he was still better than anyone she had ever been with “Facts,” is what she thought she was saying. In Selena Gomez’s words, Benny Blanco is “the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
