In a recent interview at Yale University, Matthew Fogel was in charge of explaining several details of the film, such as how the original villain was going to be in this production, in addition to responding to criticism about the fast pace of the story, claiming that they packed 105 minutes of story into the 80-minute duration of the film.
Among these conversations he also revealed the true reason for Yoshi’s absence in this production. Given this, the screenwriter said that it is very difficult to keep children’s attention when a movie lasts more than 90 minutes, so they had to cut the story to a more prudent time.
However, this would not be an easy task because it was about making a script that would maintain the attention of the general public, pay tribute to the character, in addition to having a development with a good balance between emotion and story, a true challenge, which ended up being a complete success.
Due to all these characteristics that they had to maintain in the production, they had to discard this important character from the video game, which could complicate this story even more.
