Despite the monarch’s and Buckingham Palace’s best efforts to maintain order so that the most important day of the crown goes without a hitch, the British monarchy continues to stir up controversy just a few days before King Charles III is crowned. Problems within the royal family continue to crop up.

monarchyThe Caribbean nation of Jamaica is currently considering organizing a referendum in which they intend to break completely free from the British throne and choose their own representatives for the year 2024. According to Marlene Malahoo, the present Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs of Jamaica, they would also demand remorse from the United Kingdom for the slave trade that the Caribbean endured in the past.

In place of King Charles III, who would be selected by the English king himself after being suggested by the prime minister, the governor general exercises the administrative power of the realm on behalf of the British monarchy.

Before the television network Sky News, Marlene Malahoo announced that Jamaica would write a new constitution that would sever all ties to the British king. She added that she would succeed in getting the pardon requested since it is what the Jamaican people have asked for. Malahoo emphasized that everything would be carried out with the approval of the people, and as a result, he would undertake numerous public meetings on the new referendum that would aim to give the nation political independence.

“With republicanism we say goodbye to a form of government linked to a painful past of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade,” the minister told the media.
