Ed Sheeran revealed that the plagiarism process for the song “Shape Of You” impacted his creative process. In an interview with the BBC, the musician said that he now films all the stages of composing his songs. The British singer was acquitted of the charges after 11 days of trial by a London High Court judge.
“I film everything, everything is filmed. We had claims on the songs and we said, ‘Well, here’s the recording and you watch it. You will see that there is nothing there. There’s the point by George Harrison where he said he’s afraid to play the piano as he might be playing someone else’s note. There’s definitely a feeling of that in the studio“, Sheeran told the BBC.

The lawsuit was filed by singer known as Sami Switch and music producer Ross O’Donoghue, who claimed that “Shape of You” had been directly influenced by the song “Oh Why“, which they released in 2015, two years before the track was released.

But, according to the judge’s ruling, there is not enough evidence to support the claim that Ed Sheeran intentionally or even subconsciously copied “Oh Why” when he composed “Shape of You” .
“While there are similarities between the ‘Oh Why’ hook and aspects of ‘Shape of You’, there are also significant differences” the judge stated in his ruling.
