BLACKPINK’s Lisa has opened up about why she kept her past relationships private while working as a KPop star under the South Korean idol system. In her upcoming documentary, “Always Lalisa,” the Thai superstar discusses the pressure KPop artists can face when it comes to dating and public attention. According to Canadian media reports published on September 5, 2026, Lisa said she worried that a public relationship could affect BLACKPINK’s popularity.
“If you’re seeing someone and you get caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops. When I was younger, I had a few relationships, but we had to hide when we’re dating. I didn’t want my dating to be the thing that hurts BLACKPINK’s popularity,” the “New Woman” hitmaker revealed.
Lisa explained that she had relationships when she was younger but felt that she needed to keep them private. She revealed that artists in the KPop industry can face criticism or changes in public support when dating rumors become public. Lisa also talked about her early years in South Korea after moving there from Thailand in 2011. She started training at the age of 14 under YG Entertainment, feeling that she could not express her thoughts.
“I didn’t dare speak up or express my thoughts,” Lisa revealed, “and I had been living like that since I was 14,” the Thai singer revealed.
The documentary also explores Lisa’s career outside BLACKPINK, including her solo music and acting projects. She reveals that “Dream,” a song from her 2025 solo album “Alter Ego,” was inspired by one of her private relationships. Lisa revealed that she asked the person who inspired the track for permission to release it. The person agreed only if fans did not try to uncover their identity. Meanwhile, “Always Lalisa,” directed by Sue Kim, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2026. The documentary will arrive in IMAX and theaters worldwide on October 12 before becoming available on YouTube Premium later this year.
