Louis Tomlinson has unfollowed Zayn Malik on Instagram, adding to recent rumors about tension and physical violence between the former One Direction bandmates. As of Saturday, April 18, 2026, Tomlinson was no longer following Malik on the platform. However, he is still following Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne. On the other hand, Malik still seemed to follow Tomlinson, who remained one of the few profiles he followed on his list. The exact date of the unfollow is unknown, but the change quickly sparked online chatter.

The situation became more noticeable because two of Tomlinson’s sisters, Phoebe and Lottie, also reportedly unfollowed Malik. At the same time, they continued to follow the other former members of One Direction. This social media change came shortly after new reports about possible tension during the production of a documentary series starring Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. The project was first announced in October 2025 and was expected to follow the pair on a road trip across the United States. A press release from late 2025 announced that the two singers would get together for a three-episode documentary series, with them embarking “on a road trip across America in a spontaneous adventure of reconnection, exploration, and a lot of laughter.”

According to reports from The Sun, the series ran into trouble after an alleged physical altercation during filming. The outlet revealed that Malik punched Tomlinson, though no official confirmation of the altercation has been provided by the artists or the production team. The physical conflict apparently took place after Malik commented on Tomlinson. After being punched, Tomlinson had to be treated in the hospital, though this is also not confirmed. Meanwhile, the fate of the documentary remains unannounced.
