The pop queen shares a new video built around Elizabeth Taylor’s screen legacy

Taylor Swift released the video for “Elizabeth Taylor” on March 31, 2026. The track comes from The Life of a Showgirl, and the visual can only be seen on Spotify and Apple Music. At the time of press, there is still no version to stream on YouTube. Meanwhile, the music video stands out from many of Taylor Swift’s usual aesthetic choices, as she does not make an appearance in the video at all.

The visual uses famous film clips and public footage of the actress

Instead of telling a new story through the singer, the video is made up of clips from Elizabeth Taylor’s best-known films and public appearances. The montage includes scenes from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra, Father of the Bride, Giant, A Place in the Sun, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It also features footage of the late actress wearing her well-known jewelry and glamorous outfits. Other titles included in the visual are Elephant Walk, Boom!, Julia Misbehaves, Love Is Better Than Ever, Rhapsody, and Suddenly Last Summer.

Approval for the tribute song and video

“Elizabeth Taylor” follows the earlier singles from her latest album, namely “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.” When the album came out in October, Taylor Swift said she had asked permission from Taylor’s estate before releasing a song about a real person. She explained that the family and estate were kind and supportive. In addition, the video credits also thank the House of Taylor, the Elizabeth Taylor Trust, and members of the Todd and Wilding families. Taylor died in 2011 at age 73.

“We go to their family and their estate and let them know and they were lovely about it.”
