Following his death, tributes came from colleagues and network representatives. Euphoria creator Sam Levinson said working with Dane was an honor and described him as a dear friend. In addition, an HBO spokesperson also expressed sadness and praised his talent across three seasons of the show. Eric Dane played Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi). After season 2 ended in February 2022, the actor mentioned that his character would return with a redemption storyline.

“I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric,” Levinson shared. “Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Dane’s passing,” an HBO spokesperson said. “He was incredibly talented, and HBO was fortunate to have worked with him on three seasons of Euphoria. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

In addition to Euphoria, Dane appeared in the series Brilliant Minds after revealing his diagnosis. In that episode, he portrayed a firefighter battling ALS. He spoke openly about living with the disease and said he was surprised by his own strength. ALS is a progressive disease with no cure, and many patients live three to five years after diagnosis. During his battle with this condition, the actor became an advocate for awareness and research to support other people with this disease.
