BTSJungkook is back in the worldwide headlines after a Chinese hacking group attempted to steal $6.03 million worth of shares in HYBE. The news caused a commotion among the K-Netizens and the fans, after they discovered the illegal group was using an account registered under BTS member Jungkook.

On August 22, the 34-year-old Chinese national was accused of leading a group that hacked personal information from multiple websites from August 2023 to January 2024, and used it to draw out funds from the accounts of wealthy individuals and celebrities, including the Golden Maknae.

The hacker impersonated Jungkook online to get access to his finnacial accounts

Shortly after, BTS’ Jungkook enlisted in the South Korean military in January 2024, and an attempt was made to impersonate the idol’s identity to gain access to his securities accounts. Jungkook’s music agency, HYBE, flagged the suspicious activity and froze the accounts before any funds from the idol were lost.

The Ministry of Justice and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, along with Interpol, tracked down the suspect and found out that he had entered Thailand. Quickly, they requested local authorities to take him into custody. Prosecutors and investigators were dispatched to the country to coordinate the extradition back to South Korea.
