TXT’s Taehyun is currently promoting TXT’s new musical project, “The Star Chapter: Together.” The idol made an appearance at the “Common Thursday” talk show, where he sat down and chatted about the group’s interests and activities.
Taehyun mentioned he has been at his music agency since 2016, even before they became HYBE. Despite the idol innocently mentioning that since he started, they have been practicing mainly hip-hop and R&B, and the company is based on Black music.
Immediately, social media was filled with malicious comments accusing Taehyun of doing the “bare minimum,” and he has been accused of cultural appropriation of the black genres. On the other hand, K-Netizens defended the idol, explaining Taheyun has done more to acknowledge the culture they are influenced by and appreciate it, rather than other artists who “appropriate” it.
Ultimately, the controversy keeps increasing, and TXT’s Taehyun could release a short statement to clear the air once and for all. For now, the atmosphere has become tense among the K-Netizens and the idol’s detractors over the way the idol expresses his ideas.
“y’all are impressed by anything” and it’s a kpop idol acknowledging that the industry is heavily influenced by black culture …?? if we can agree this is the bare minimum why is no one else doing it https://t.co/0hszGTS0dL pic.twitter.com/xRlSPCaWLT
