On April 9th, 2005, the wedding of King Charles III and Queen Cmilla took place at Windsor Guildhall, a ceremony so intimate that only 28 names appeared on the guest list, among which Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were not present. This is the reason why they did not attend the wedding ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth, as the sovereign of that time, considered it inappropriate to be present at the wedding of two people who had divorced their previous partners, since she was the head of the Church of England and wanted to set an example by not attending the ceremony.
It should be remembered that Charles married Princess Diana from 1981 to 1996 and they had two children, Prince Harry and the heir to the throne, Prince William, while Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles for 22 years from 1973 to 1995, having two children, Tom and Laura.
Although the former King and Queen did not attend the first event, they decided to show their support for the marriage by offering a reception at Windsor Castle and attending the ceremony at St. George’s, where they finally shared with the couple to officially give them their blessing.
