Although the official statement did not specify the reason behind the sudden pause, the announcement came shortly after news that Sookijin had passed away in an accident on June 7, 2026. A family member who identified herself as Sookijin’s cousin shared the news through Sookijin’s own channel. Fans were shocked as the content creator had remained active online until shortly before her death and had recently uploaded content with Seulgi.

After the news broke, fans sent messages of support across social media, expressing sympathy for both Sookijin and Seulgi’s families. The Red Velvet member had previously shown her connection with her cousin on multiple occasions, showing their strong bond. Amid this news, it has been said that Red Velvet has plans to come back as a full group in August. No changes regarding their return have been announced, despite the tragic news of Sookijin’s passing.
