The track was released in 2023 as part of the girl group’s second EP, “Get Up.” “Super Shy” served as the project’s main single and became one of NewJeans’ biggest international hits. The song is known for its energetic sound and Jersey club-inspired production. It spent eight weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and nine weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart. Meanwhile, “Get Up” reached #1 on the Billboard 200 in August 2023, after a close chart battle with the Barbie movie soundtrack at the time.
“Super Shy” has also received critical acclaim from several international publications. It was the only KPop song included in Pitchfork’s list of the 100 best songs of the 2020s and was named one of the best songs of 2023 by Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME and i-D. Now, NewJeans’ entire discography has accumulated around 8 billion Spotify streams. “Hype Boy” has surpassed 700 million streams, while “New Jeans” and “Attention” have each exceeded 500 million. This makes NewJeans critical darlings and a global success, despite the setbacks and legal battles.
