King Charles III has held some of the most important royal appointments at Buckingham Palace since his reign started in 2023. However, the well-known palace will close its doors until 2027, so where will the King fulfill his royal duties?
The historic royal residence will welcome the Emir of Qatar next month and will become the final state visit until 2027. Buckingham Palace will undergo a £369 million refurbishment program. The closure marks a significant shift in royal hospitality as it will become the largest refurbishment in decades.
The subsequent state visits will be relocated to Windsor Castle while the extensive renovation works continue. On the other hand, King Charles III will be relocated to a private office from the north wing to the Belgian Suite on the ground floor of the palace’s west-facing Garden Wing.
A close friend to the Monarch of the United Kingdom revealed that working in the room he was born in will bring a “half smile to him” in a new short convo with The Times.
“He is always aware of the significance of history, and the decision to be based in the Orleans Room won’t have been taken without half a smile. The King will enjoy the symmetry of discharging his duties as monarch in the room where he was born.”
