King Charles III and Queen Camilla were crowned as the new rulers of the United Kingdom on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. The event had almost 1000 attendees and was watched by millions of people all over the world. However, many people do not know that the new monarchs of the United Kingdom will be crowned again in Edinburgh, Scotland.
According to the tradition, Charles and Camilla are required to attend another coronation in the northern part of the United Kingdom, more specifically Scotland, and they will be presented with Honours of Scotland during the ceremony which will be carried out at St. Giles Cathedral.
The Honours of Scotland consist of a crown, a scepter, and a sword. They are the oldest crown jewels in Britain and they have been used since at least 1494. In addition, they were used for the first time together during the coronation of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1543 and it has become a tradition to include them since then.
After the news about the new ceremony was revealed, some people showed their discontent as carrying out a coronation is highly expensive. The United Kingdom is on the verge of an economic recession so doing two coronation ceremonies is seen as careless and inconsiderate on King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s part.
