IU has revealed the reason why she decided to star in MBC’s upcoming drama Perfect Crown. The series is set in an alternate version of Korea where the country operates as a constitutional monarchy. The protagonist of the story is Seong Hui Ju, played by IU, a wealthy chaebol heiress who seems to have everything except the social status she desires. Leading the show with her is Grand Prince Ian, played by Byeon Woo Seok. He portrays a royal figure who has the title of prince but lacks the power people might expect from that position.
As the K-Drama’s premiere nears, IU said she feels both nervous and excited about the show. The actress and singer revealed she is especially grateful that many viewers are already looking forward to the drama before its release. She also explained that Perfect Crown stood out to her from the beginning because of its unusual title and the strong personalities of the characters. According to IU, Seong Hui Ju was an interesting character for her to play due to her unpredictable behavior and her ability to act boldly.
“The title is unique, so it left an impression. Each of the characters’ personalities stood out, and they were intertwined in an interesting way. In particular, Hui Ju’s unpredictable behavior and her power to carry out those actions felt charming,” she said about the show.
In the drama, Seong Hui Ju is the head of Castle Beauty and is described as someone with beauty, wealth, and skill. Despite that, she continues to face limits because of her birth and her status as a commoner. Meanwhile, IU is inviting viewers to watch the fast pace of the first half and the emotional connection between the characters in the latter half.
