Billie Eilish revealed to British Vogue that she was abused when she was just a child. The young 19-year-old artist was promoting the release of her single “Your Power“, where she admitted to being inspired by what happened to write the song. According to the singer, her new song is “an open letter to people who take advantage of others“, where she also said the following: “This song is not really just about me but no.”
The artist also took the opportunity to raise awareness among people who continually take advantage of women, she said: “I do not know a girl or woman who has not had a strange or really bad experience, and this does not happen only in women, men and children too, they also suffer constant abuse from sick people.”
The multi-winner of the Grammy said that before she did not understand what her age was, she said that she did not care either and came to believe at one point that she was already a girl mature enough to know everything: “Of course, you think that’s the way when you are young, because it is the oldest thing you have ever lived, we feel mature and with enough intellect to understand everything, but we are wrong.”

She continued: “I learned that when I began to receive constant hatred for winning awards that I definitely never expected to have.” Regarding her experience with the abuse she received when she was a child, the californian said that at one point she even saw it as something ‘normal‘ due to her growth, but later she realized that it was not the case, that the words and the way people address her is in a sick and depraved way.
“The most I can say in the end is that the person who did it is not from the music industry. At the end of it all, the very hatred that I have received for everything I am, is what has shaped my growth as a human being, and I hope to continue growing to continue learning and above all to use my voice for the millions of human beings who daily suffer abused“.
