Pope Francis issued a strong criticism of those countries where homosexuality is still considered a crime and called for more openness in religion to include LGBT+ people in churches.

But, despite that, he made other comments that alerted the community.

“Being homosexual is not a crime. It is not a crime. Yes, but it is a sin. Well, first let’s distinguish sin from crime,” he said in a recent interview.

“In the catechism of the Catholic Church it says that people of homosexual tendency have to be welcomed, they do not have to be marginalized, accompanied if they are given a place,” he said.

At the same time, he advised the families that “have a son or daughter with homosexual tendency” not to reject them and better choose to make “the family picture so that they can live in peace”.

Finally, Pope Francis mentioned that no one should be discriminated against, much less the LGBT+ community, since everyone has the opportunity to accept God in their heart.

“I believe that no one should be discriminated against. Even more so leaving already the problem of homosexuality, let’s go to another problem. The greatest murderer, the greatest chopper should not be discriminated against either. Every man and every woman must have a window in their lives where they can turn their hope and where they can see the dignity of God. And being homosexual is not a crime. It is a human condition”, Pope Francis concluded.
