Taylor Swift has announced “Patient Zero,” her first new single since I Knew It, Knew You, with the song arriving on September 25, 2026. The announcement came on Tuesday, September 22, at the end of a countdown on her website that had sparked intrigue among the Swifties, her fans. The singer shared the song’s artwork on Instagram, showing her in a black dress against a concrete wall, and wrote that she had been “impatiently waiting” to share the track.

“Patient Zero” is already available for pre-order via the artist’s website, alongside acoustic and piano versions that come in alternative covers. The piano edition’s artwork has Taylor posing while showing off her engagement ring. The song follows The Life of a Showgirl album, which was released on October 3, 2025, and became an immediate success. The album also spawned two massive hit singles with “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.”

The countdown then gave fans a final clue. “Patient Zero” will be released just two days before her scheduled appearance at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where she will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors and is up for 11 awards across several categories.
