Recent reports revealed that Harry and Meghan were left surprised by King Charles’ royal status letter, as they were not informed in advance about this media release.
On September 7th, Buckingham Palace released an official letter clarifying the current royal status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now that they have returned to the United Kingdom. The statement also claimed the text had previously been shared with the couple’s team.
However, the BBC reported that a spokesman for the couple said on Tuesday the 8th that the couple was “a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”
Sources close to Harry and Meghan revealed they received the letter at 1:59 p.m., and 20 minutes later, a series of questions to clarify some details with them. At 3:09 p.m. the couple’s team was able to inform the prince, who was in a meeting, but at 3:11 p.m. they were told that the statement had been sent to the media.
The letter clarifies the couple keep their position as ‘private citizens’ and are still not able to use their HRH titles, which was made under the direction of King Charles after a “number of requests” for clarity about the royal status of the couple in their return to the country.
