Recent reports revealed the reason why Prince George won’t be allowed to have a smartphone at Eton College and the outdated method he will use to stay in touch with his family.
After it was confirmed that Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s firstborn is heading to Eton College in September, The Telegraph reported that despite their students living at the school full-time, those from the first year are not allowed to have smartphones.
The BBC previously reported that this boys’ boarding school would provide first-year students, which George will be joining this fall, with ‘brick’ phones without internet access for them to communicate with their families through basic calls and texts.
According to the school’s previous statements about this rule, they said that this decision was made with the intention of “balancing the benefits and challenges that technology brings to schools” for the youngest and new students to adapt better to the institution.
For Prince George, this might not be a challenge, since at home the Prince and Princess of Wales have a zero-phone and no-social-networks policy for their three children and do not seem willing to change it with the arrival of their eldest son at Eton.
