Superman: Man of Tomorrow brings back key stars for a July 2027 release

James Gunn returns to direct the sequel

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is set to premiere in theaters on July 9, 2027. James Gunn revealed that he is writing and directing the sequel, following his well-received 2025 Superman film. Gunn remains one of the main creative heads behind the current DC Universe, and he is also producing Supergirl, which is set for a June 26, 2026, premiere. Even though the studio has not released a Superman: Man of Tomorrow trailer or full synopsis yet, the movie is already one of DC’s major upcoming and highly anticipated projects.

The main cast returns with several new additions

David Corenswet will return to the movie as Superman and Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Other returning actors include The other confirmed cast members include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, according to Variety. New cast members are also joining the sequel. In December 2025, Lars Eidinger was announced as Brainiac. In March 2026, Aaron Pierre was reported to join the film as John Stewart. Finally, in April 2026, Adria Arjona was also added to the cast as Maxima, according to reports from Variety and Deadline.

The story sets up an unusual alliance

Even though an official plot for Superman: Man of Tomorrow has not been released, several reports say the movie will center on Superman and Lex Luthor working together against Brainiac. That pairing could give the sequel a very different dynamic from the first film, since Luthor is usually one of Superman’s main enemies, as shown in the previous film. Until more details arrive, fans can revisit the 2025 Superman movie on HBO Max, where other films from the franchise can also be streamed.
