The fan in question is Andrés Prince, a real estate agent resident of Chicago, Illinois, United States, who through a six-minute recording shared on his TikTok, told the storytime of the federal lawsuit he received from the company Cobbler LLC, producer of the actor Adam Sandler.

According to what the man narrated, this situation happened during his first year living in the United States, since upon arriving in the country he settled in the house of an uncle who allowed him to stay while he was completely settled.

Soon after, Andres decided to hire an Internet service, since there was no Internet at home, so in the afternoons, he and his brother spent their time watching movies on the Popcorn Time site.

This went on for a long time until, one day when he got home, his uncle told him that a package had arrived, something that seemed strange to him, since he had not ordered anything. Upon opening it, Andres saw that it was a document with many sheets, which upon review he discovered that it was a federal lawsuit from Cobbler LLC for downloading the tape The Cobbler (2014) by Adam Sandler, which was not very popular and did not generate much money.

At first, the man thought it was a bad joke or that it was a lie, but after a week he received another document that said he had to appear before a judge with a lawyer to face the lawsuit against him. Andres said he was scared to death and spent several sleepless nights until he went to court.

.

Once in the office where he was summoned by his lawyer and the plaintiff, they explained to him that it was a federal lawsuit for illegally downloading movies, since the actor’s company was focusing on suing anyone who illegally downloaded that particular movie, since they did not earn the desired money on that tape, that was the way they found to generate it.

In his defense, Andres realized that he could not have been the one who downloaded all those movies, since he had an iPhone and it is not possible to do it on that cell phone, unless it has an Android operating system. Following his argument, the lawyer showed him a list with the names of around 50 movies that appeared in his download record, so he concluded that it had not been his cell phone, but his brother’s, since it was on that device where they watched the tapes.

Furthermore, Andres, who defended his position that he had not been the one who downloaded those movies, said that his lawyer and the people at the office told him that regardless of whether or not he had been the guilty party, simply because the Internet company’s contract was in his name, he had to answer to the charges against him, which amounted to thousands of dollars or, failing that, he could end up in prison for six to twelve years.

Frightened by the unflattering outlook, he was offered to settle the whole matter right then and there. The deal was that he had to pay three thousand dollars and all charges against him would be dropped. So, without thinking about it, Andres accepted and called his two brothers to cooperate with him and pay the fine. () In the end, everything was solved and he found out that at least 500 people all over the United States had the same thing happen to them.
