In a recent interview, TWICE‘s Jihyo comments on BTS‘ legacy, expressing her gratitude and respect for their hard work in the industry, sparking mixed fan reactions on social networks.
On July 10th, Forbes released a new interview with the idol talking about her new song ‘Distant Lover’ in collaboration with Shenseea and opening up about the international growth of K-Pop, bringing many collaborations with Western artists.
Jihyo mentioned PSY‘s big hit ‘Gangnam Style,’ social networks dance challenges and seniors K-Pop artists like BTS as the phenomenoms that ‘paved the way’ for South Korean artists to success in the global music industry.
“We’re just following in their footsteps, and I’m grateful for what they’ve done for us.”
On social networks, this statement went quickly viral among fans and netizens, generating mixed reactions. While some support and thank her recognition of the boy group, others are against her and calling her a misogynist.
“The Queen has spoken. Mind that’s how artists sound when they are not jealous and genuinely don’t feel inferior, take some notes people.”
“Internalized misogyny is a bitch, ain’t it? Crediting women’s accomplishments and success to these talentless racist pieces of shit. Disgusting. They didn’t pave the way for shit. Their music is garbage and their entire aesthetic is stolen from black people. Fuck BTS.”
“K-pop fans are attacking her and calling her a misogynist for giving BTS credit as one of the biggest contributors to K-pop’s global expansion. Meanwhile, the ones actually harassing a woman right now are YOU, not her.”
“yall trying to make this misogynistic just bc she didn’t mention bp cmon🤦🏻♀️ I hate bts but we have to be real at some point I fear.”
“Women like her who love bootlicking men and attribute all the success to them while discrediting the other women who worked stupendously hard to make it are so icky”
