Prince Harry revealed one year ago the secret phrase that he and his brother, Prince William, use in extreme crisis to calm and trust themselves; however, the last time they use it, it didn’t work, saddening them due to the state of their relationship.
In the last chapter of the Duke of Sussex memoir book ‘Spare‘, he reveals that after the funeral of the late King Philip, he had a strong discussion with his brother and his father, the current King Charles III, about his departure from the British Monarchy.
According to Harry, during this intense argument, his older brother said the sacred words, and he wrote, “‘Harold, you must listen to me! I just want you to be happy, Harold. I swear… I swear on Mummy’s life‘“. This phrase stopped him and his father from saying anything more.
The Duke added, “Ever since we were boys, those three words were to be used only in times of extreme crisis” and continued, “For nearly twenty-five years, we’d reserved that soul-crushing vow for times when one of us needed to be heard, to be believed, quickly. For times when nothing else would do”.
Although these words stopped him, he said they “didn’t work“, as Harry “didn’t believe him and didn’t fully trust him. And vice versa. He saw it too. He saw that we were in a place of such hurt and doubt that even those sacred words couldn’t set us free“, he said about this emotional moment with Prince William.
