Prince William and Kate Middleton did not arrive on time for King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation ceremony. However, a royal expert has weighed in on the situation and revealed the reason why this happened.
The royal family rehearsed for months to make sure that the event which took place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey was perfect. However, there was a slight delay in the plans and, as a result, Charles and Camilla had to wait a few minutes for William and Kate in their carriage.
Royal biographer Omid Scobie revealed that the delay could have been because of the couple’s children:
“In fact, apart from Prince William and Princess Kate joining the procession late (children were to blame, a source tells me), and Camilla’s ladies in attendance – sister Annabel Elliot, and queen’s companion the Marchioness of Lansdowne – accidentally creating an unfortunate wedgie moment out of her silk Bruce Oldfield dress on the way into the Abbey, very few hitches took place.”
Although the coronation is considered a success, King Charles III was visibly upset because of the short delay. On top of that, several fans who were watching the ceremony live also noticed that the Prince and Princess of Wales were running late and expressed it on social media. “Prince William, Kate, and their 2 younger children were supposed to have arrived 5 minutes ahead of him, but instead they were a minute late; so he couldn’t get out of the carriage until Prince William and Kate enter the building.”
