The famous actor Asa Butterfield, protagonist of the successful Netflix series ‘Sex Education‘, has surprised all his fans with a statement in which he revealed that throughout his career he had to record a traumatic scene that made him want to abandon acting.
Although the actor rose to fame after his role in the 2019 streaming platform series, he has been in the industry for many years, which is why he has worked on other different productions, including the famous film ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas‘ from 2006.
This film where Butterfield played Bruno, at the young age of 10, was not so satisfactory for him according to his own statements, because when recording one of his scenes he thought about leaving acting.
Set during the Second World War, this production tells the story of the young son of a concentration camp commander, who creates an unexpected but innocent friendship with a small Jewish boy who is locked up there.
This film had a tragic ending that the actor remembers with very little affection, “the gas chamber scene, at the end, I knew what it was, I knew what we were showing, I knew it was just interpretation“.
“But I remember being in a room full of men, some of whom were completely naked, and it was dark, and they closed the door on us, and it was just… horrible“, Butterfield said.
“There were a couple of times I went out and said: I can’t do it’. We had breaks between shots, we played, but that’s hard for a child“, he added.
Regarding his parents he shared, “they always wanted to protect me“, and he continued, “they always said that if I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t have to do it“.
“I don’t remember this, but my mother told me that after I finished that job I told her I didn’t want to be an actor anymore“. he finally said.
