The well-known filmmaker Tim Burton has been greatly acclaimed for his incredible productions, including the successful ‘Corpse Bride‘, which has caught the attention of many viewers due to the dark story that inspired its creation.
This 2005 classic tells a fantasy story set in 19th century Europe that follows the life of Victor, who is about to get married, when in the last rehearsal and in the midst of nerves he walks away to practice his vows but is surprised by a dead bride who takes him to another world.
This story is based on some Russian-Jewish tales from the 19th century Jewish Folklore, in which the also writer was inspired, among them ‘The Finger‘, with a background that explains the tragedy of the Russian pogroms, which were group attacks on the Jews.
Although it is not completely explained, it is believed that the bride who rises from the dead is a victim of these acts of violence who could not conclude her union in marriage, however the famous filmmaker has eliminated the cultural details of the story to make this a more western film, but with the same darkness.
This film starred the renowned actors Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter who gave their voices to give life to the main characters in the stop motion production. It is currently available on the MAX streaming platform where you can watch it to enjoy the Halloween season.
