According to Deadline reports, the sequel to ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘ on its opening day, Wednesday, April 1st, grossed $34.5 million in 3,821 theaters, becoming the best Wednesday opening in April and the best so far in 2026.

With this milestone gross, ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ becomes the fifth film in the Top 5 best opening days for Illumination titles, behind ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ with $48.2M, ‘Minions’ with $46M, ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ with $38.5M, and ‘Despicable Me 2’ with $35M.
