In the message, he told STAYs that he had participated in the Shikanoko challenge, a Japanese anime challenge. This sparked controversy among South Korean netizens, who found the mention of a Japanese song insensitive, especially on Korean Liberation Day.
Korean Liberation Day is commemorated on August 15 in both South Korea and North Korea, to remember the day the nation was free from Japan’s colonial rule. Despite the backlash, the Stray Kids member apologized for his actions:
