The K-drama, “Extracurricular,” surrounds the need of the protagonist who is forced to commit a crime to subsist against society and to be able to pay her loans with the university. Due to this, he started engaging in criminal activities.

The thriller series premiered in 2020 and shows the reality of many sex workers in South Korea and the protagonist, Oh Ji-soo who became owner of one of the largest sexual service networks in the city.

The K-drama was banned in South Korea and canceled for a second season after it was premiered because the country was facing a scandal regarding the “Nth Room” case, which involved blackmail, cybersex trafficking, and the spread of sexually exploitative videos via the Telegram between 2018 and 2020.

The series received critical acclaim from different outlets. However, it had to be canceled to stop the controversy inside the country. So far, Netflix has not released any statement regarding a second season of the series, which could indicate that it might never be renewed for a follow-up season, in spite of the necessity to address these social issues.
