A Chinese citizen who is accused of leading a major hacking ring that targeted BTS’ Jungkook, among others, has been extradited to South Korea after being based in Bangkok. South Korea’s justice ministry said the 40-year-old suspect was connected to a group that allegedly stole 38 billion won, about $25.4 million, from several victims. The Chinese national had allegedly hacked websites linked to government agencies and public figures.

One of the alleged targets was BTS member Jungkook. According to South Korean media, the group obtained access to a securities account in Jungkook’s name and tried to transfer 8.4 billion won worth of shares connected to HYBE (the management company behind BTS). The attempted transaction was stopped after the entertainment company froze the account, preventing the shares from being transferred.

Reports say the hacking action took place between August 2023 and April 2025. Other alleged victims of hacking included the chairman of a major conglomerate and the head of a venture company. The authorities plan to question the suspect, review the evidence, and seek an arrest warrant. The suspect has not been publicly named, but another 36-year-old Chinese citizen linked to the same criminal group was extradited from Thailand in August of the previous year, indicted in September, and is now on trial in South Korea.
