When Brie was selected to play Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, in 2016, crowds of netizens strongly criticized the decision, which was met with heavy reactions on social media.

Captain Marvel was the first Marvel superhero movie to star a woman, and this was, at the time, harshly criticized, to the point that the actress was the target of a relentless misogynistic smear campaign. However, Samuel L. Jackson, who has registered an excellent friendship with Brie Larson, spoke out in defense of the actress.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Samuel assured: “Those wretched incels will not destroy her”, “Brie is a very strong person, more so than people give her credit for”.

After this, the actor told how he met Brie and also how he managed to build a strong friendship with her, “We worked on King Kong together, it wasn’t one of the best experiences or the most wonderful for either of us. But still, we became great friends during that particular experience, because we were having such a hard time.” “Then, when she got the role of Captain Marvel, she immediately called me and said, ‘They want me inside the Marvel Universe. Should I accept?’ And I said, ‘Of course you do! Let’s do it!'” Samuel explained in his interview.
