RM reflects on BTS’ difficult period before the group reunited for the ARIRANG era

The BTS leader opens up about emotional struggles during military service

RM has shared new details about a challenging period BTS experienced before the septet officially reunited after military service. During a Weverse livestream on May 28, 2026, the BTS leader recalled a gathering held in 2024 at Jimin’s home. At the time, not all members had completed their mandatory military service, and RM said the group was struggling emotionally. According to the rapper, the BTS members were in a difficult mental state and spent the evening discussing their concerns, future plans, and the challenges they had faced during their time apart.

“When Jin-hyung was discharged from the military… at that time, everyone was in a bad mental state,” he said, according to an English translation.

RM explained that the conversation became emotional, with tears being shed as the members reflected on their situation. He said their time together made him realize he needed to work even harder to keep the group united. The rapper also spoke about his desire to create an album that would reward fans for their patience during the boy band’s hiatus, which began in 2022. He explained that one of his main goals was to give something meaningful back to fans s who had waited years for BTS to return as a complete group.

Since reuniting in 2026, BTS released the album “ARIRANG,”  and embarked on a tour of the same name. The group began the tour at Goyang Stadium in South Korea and introduced several new songs during the opening concerts. The tour has scheduled 85 shows across 34 regions, making it the biggest tour of BTS’ career. The septet is also scheduled to perform at the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show on July 19, 2026, alongside Madonna and Shakira, making it a historic achievement for them.
