Prince William was chosen to lead the rehearsals for King Charles III’s birthday parade, which will be celebrated for the first time since his ascension to the British throne. The important event, featuring hundreds of soldiers and horses, is going to be broadcast on television and it is expected to be a huge success.
The ceremony is known as ‘Trooping the Colour’ and it is celebrated every year, since at least the 17th century, to commemorate the birthday of the current sovereign of the United Kingdom. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Prince of Wales was in charge of leading the rehearsals of the event in which almost 1500 soldiers and 300 horses will take part.
Although King Charles III was actually born on November 14, Trooping the Colour is usually celebrated in the spring or summer as the weather is better during this time of the year. As a result, it was announced that Charles’ official birthday is always going to be the third Saturday in June, which this year falls on June 17.
During the rehearsals, Prince William was seen wearing a uniform very similar to that of the King’s Guard: a tall cap made of bearskin, a tunic, a garter belt, and his sword. In addition, this will be his first time fulfilling his duty of overseeing the rehearsals since he became the Prince of Wales.
